These two are typical of the types that have ruined our society. They are annoying.

Its actually emulating Cricket commentary in the 1950s. Since then rest of Cricket world besides australia have played well against England so its not as the same. But I would not be surprised in the 1950s cricket commentary in England was like this must have been great to listen to radio cricket commentary back then. Must be hilarious.

I think Ronnie is trying not to corpse during mother’s speech. Priceless. Would love to see outtakes.

Jack is a real hero who made his oath and would stand by his pals to the bitter end if necessary. As an Old Contemptible he was there in WW1 from the very start. My great grandfather served in The Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, and was in the 1st and 3rd Battles of Ypres, and in the Somme campaign to mention but a few. Towed down to the British Legion Club every Sunday as a lad, I met many other WW1 and WW2 veterans who used this time to discuss the wars. I knew many WW1 men. They were a different breed, and the salt of the earth. I miss them all bless them.

British comedy has always been double meanings. It has always cared less about causing offence. Comedy shows, stand up and films, radio. It lambasts celebrities, politicians, the police everything is fair game, past and present. That's why our celebrities, actors, politicians etc have thick shins. Being lambasted in the UK, even whole nations is a national pass time. Irish v Scottish v Welsh v English. Des o' Connor loved being lambasted by M+W. It was great publicity. He was a fine singer, with a sense of humour.

As to favourite Sharpe scenes, that's hard to say. This one is pretty darned great :) A list of great scenes would likely include almost anything Simmerson appears in :D Michael Cochrane, who plays him, wove a masterful depiction of a despicable man and we do so love it when he gets his just deserts in the stories. What Michael managed to do tho' was give some depth to the villain and make us see he is not 'evil', just weak and prideful and yet also under more social pressure than he can cope with because of his family. So, over time as an audience member, you come to actually feel some pity for him despite his loathsomeness.

My parents met and married in 6 weeks. They had a traditional marriage. My mother never worked outside of the home. My dad has stayed devoted to her. Now in their 80s my mom is ill and I get to see my dad behind the sink and in the laundry room. He did a 180 when she became ill. I was in turn rasied to be a wife. My mom loves to say "people these days don't choose to stay married." She got lucky. There are so many men who are abusive. I raised an independent daughter who adopted a beautiful little boy. She is single by choice. Every women deserves the right to choose to obey a man or not, but they deserve to make an informed decision.

Rose From The South music that you had playing in the background isn't appropriate for anything to do with World War 2, it was played at the death camp Sobibor Train Station, has the Jewish people was forced off the train, before going to the gas chambers, it was music that tricked people in to a false sense nothing wrong going to happen by the Nazis, hence why British shows don't put Rose From The South music with World War 2 unless it's for historical accuracy.

My understanding was that Mr Previn had flown in that morning and had a few goes at the sketch before it was recorded. Couple of things: great to see the orchestra cracking up as they had no idea of what a world class conductor was to go through; and at the end of the series they had their "victims" playing parts as if they had lost their prestigious jobs and in this case Mr Previn was playing a bus conductor!

What can you say other than when it comes to war we're quite good .

In the 1970s being white working class who in general supported the Labour party were as far away from agreeing with the right wing German Nazi, National Socialist German Workers' Party (NSDAP) as it was possible to be, this country had 25 years earlier used those same working class men to defeat the evil that was Nazi Germany. It should be remembered this country was nearly all white and we were still withdrawing from Empire and the beginning of mass immigration was just starting, so the racial views of the time were held by the vast majority of the population who enjoyed shows like the Black and White Minstrel show and Love thy Neighbour. This was long before we have warnings on TV about the content and views of people of the time. also it was just light entertainment that in reality helped change public opinion in the coming years.
